Governor Mohammed Bago of Niger State has announced a significant milestone in the state’s internally-generated revenue (IGR), with a total of N3.5 billion collected in May. Governor Bago made this announcement on Wednesday during the 155th Joint Task Board (JTB) meeting held in Suleja. The meeting’s theme was “Post Reform: Enhancing Revenue Authorities for Optimal Tax Management.”

Governor Bago highlighted his administration’s commitment to fostering collaboration with the JTB to exchange ideas and skills aimed at boosting revenue collection. “Between January and May this year, we collected an average of N2.621 billion monthly, compared to an average of N1.806 billion monthly the previous year,” he said.

The governor emphasized the remarkable progress made in May, where the state generated N3.508 billion, marking a 45 percent increase from the previous period. He noted that this growth has facilitated the expansion of infrastructure projects and improved social service delivery across various sectors, enhancing the quality of life for citizens.

“This growth has not only enabled us to expand infrastructure projects but also to enhance social service delivery across various sectors, thereby improving the quality of life for our citizens,” Governor Bago stated.

The announcement underscores Niger State’s dedication to optimizing tax management and increasing its revenue base to support developmental initiatives.
