… Emergency Meeting Between Governor Alex Otti and Industrial Unions to Continue Tomorrow
The emergency meeting between His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti, the Executive Governor of Abia State, and representatives of industrial unions has concluded for the day but will resume tomorrow morning at 9 AM in the banquet hall of the government house, Umuahia.
Several critical issues concerning Abia workers were discussed during the meeting, including:
1. The former ₦30,000 minimum wage.
2. The ₦35,000 palliative wage award.
3. Arrears of leave allowance and promotions.
4. Salaries owed to workers in parastatals and government agencies.
5. Pensions and gratuities.
6. Incessant verification and uploading of certificates.
7. Severance benefits for disengaged Permanent Secretaries.
8. Reversion of command promotions.
9. Workers’ promotions and other related matters.
The leadership of the unions emphasized that the position of labor on the already scheduled indefinite strike remains firm pending the outcome of tomorrow’s meeting.
Comrade Pastor Emma Alozie (JP), the State Secretary, reiterated the unions’ commitment to achieving favorable resolutions for Abia workers. The unions remain in solidarity and are hopeful for positive outcomes from the continued discussions.
