The Rivers State Government has refuted claims circulating on social media that Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara has proposed a new minimum wage of ₦80,000 for civil servants in the state and local government areas.

In an official statement released by Nelson Chukwudi, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, the government labeled the reports as “fake news” and emphasized the need to correct any misconceptions among the public and civil servants.

“Ordinarily, we would not have responded to this fake news, but for the wrong impression it would create in the minds of the public, especially civil servants in the state,” the statement read.

Chukwudi specifically identified the source of the misinformation as Newsweekng.com, which had published an article titled “Breaking News: Governor Fubara Proposes ₦80,000 Minimum Wage.” The government categorically denied these claims, calling them “totally false and misleading.”

The statement urged the public and civil servants to disregard the false information and assured that the Rivers State Government would clarify its position on the matter in due course.

For accurate updates, the public is encouraged to rely on verified sources and official communications from the state government.
