Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has approved the payment of a new national minimum wage of N70,000 for workers on the state and local government payrolls.
This announcement was made by Emmanuel Fashe, the State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), following a closed-door meeting with Governor Fintiri on Monday in Yola.
Fashe revealed that state government employees would begin receiving the new minimum wage starting in August, while local government workers would see the increase reflected in their salaries from September.
“The template to be used is the consequential adjustment table that was implemented in 2019, pending the release of the official table from the National Salaries, Wages, and Income Commission,” Fashe explained. “Whatever the worker was receiving under the current national minimum wage of N32,000 will be adjusted proportionally in the implementation of the new minimum wage.”
Fashe assured both state and local government employees of Governor Fintiri’s commitment to prioritizing their welfare, noting the early implementation of the new minimum wage even before the release of the official table from the National Salaries, Wages, and Income Commission.
This move is expected to significantly enhance the welfare of workers across Adamawa State, aligning with the federal government’s mandate for increased minimum wage.
