The Nigeria Police Force has issued a strong warning against the unauthorized use of its official uniforms and insignia, condemning a recent video by online personality Martins Otse, popularly known as “VDM.” The video, posted on VDM’s social media accounts, features him dressed in police gear without authorization.
In a statement, the Police announced that it has initiated a full investigation into the video to trace the origin of the police uniform used and to determine the basis for VDM’s portrayal. The Police emphasized that the unauthorized use of official uniforms and symbols is a criminal offense under Section 251 of the Criminal Code Law and Section 133 of the Penal Code Law, carrying significant penalties.
While the Police Force supports creative expression, it warns content creators to refrain from using police attire without proper authorization, as it undermines the values and integrity of the Police Force.
