The Federal Government of Nigeria has assured citizens, residents, and visitors that Abuja, the nation’s capital, remains safe and secure despite a recent security advisory issued by the United States Embassy.
In a statement dated June 23, 2025, and signed by the Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the government noted the U.S. advisory restricting official travel for embassy staff and their families to military or government facilities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
While acknowledging the right of foreign missions to issue such advisories, the Federal Government emphasized that there is no specific or imminent threat within Abuja, reaffirming that the city remains safe for all.
Nigeria’s security architecture, the statement highlighted, has been both proactive and effective in preventing and neutralizing potential threats. Security and intelligence agencies are said to be monitoring developments closely and remain fully prepared to respond decisively to any danger.
“We encourage citizens to conduct their lawful activities without fear,” the statement added, urging the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
The reassurance comes as part of ongoing efforts to maintain Abuja’s standing as one of the most secure capital cities in the world.
