The Governor has issued an eight-week ultimatum for the completion of the project, warning that any delay beyond the deadline will attract sanctions.
The Commissioner disclosed that the Governor’s approval followed a request by the airport management to urgently upgrade its lighting and navigational systems to enable safe aircraft movements at night. The improvements are expected to significantly enhance operational capacity and safety at the airport.
Governor Eno, under his ARISE Agenda, has emphasized quality and timely delivery, directing the airport management and contractors to strictly adhere to the approved schedule and ensure compliance with international standards.
Beyond lighting and navigational enhancements, several other strategic infrastructure projects are ongoing within the airport ecosystem. These include the construction of a new terminal building, access roads, car park, VIP shade structures, aircraft apron, taxiway, modern surveillance systems, the Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) facility, and the Aviation Village.
To reinforce the Governor’s directive, the Commissioner for Finance and Coordinating Commissioner for the Ministry of Special Duties and Ibom Deep Sea Port, Mr. Emem Bob, recently led an inspection tour of the ongoing works. He was accompanied by the Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Umanah, and the Managing Director of Victor Attah International Airport, Mr. Uwem Ekanem.
