21 out of the 23 LG chairmen in Rivers State have announced that they won’t be leaving office after their tenure expiration in June

They said that the recently amended law empowers them to stay additional six months in office.

The LG Chairmen said LG elections ought to have been concluded and the winners awaiting swearing in but Governor Sim Fubara has shown no interest in conducting the LG election.

The chairmen said they’ll remain in office because the law as amended by the Rivers State House of Assembly says so. According to chairmen, the law gives them additional six month and they’ll remain in office after the expiration of their tenure.
