Makurdi – August 8, 2025 — Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Alia, has honoured Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) champion, Francisca Mlumun Ordega, OON, with a ₦50 million cash reward and a fully furnished three-bedroom bungalow in Makurdi.

The recognition came during a special dinner reception held in her honour at the new Banquet Hall of the Benue State Government House on Thursday.

 

In a celebratory atmosphere, Governor Alia praised Ordega for her remarkable contributions to football and for putting Benue State on the global sports map. Describing her as “a source of pride and inspiration to the youth of Benue and Nigeria at large,” the governor emphasized that the state is committed to celebrating excellence and promoting sports development.

Also recognized at the event was Ordega’s coach, who received a ₦10 million cash gift in appreciation of his role in nurturing the football star.

 

Francisca Ordega, who has represented Nigeria with distinction in multiple international competitions, including the WAFCON and FIFA Women’s World Cup, expressed gratitude for the honour and pledged to continue uplifting the name of Benue and Nigeria through sports.

 

The occasion was attended by top government officials, sports enthusiasts, and members of the football community.
